Wisdom

In myths and legends, as in all good stories, the characters learn something about themselves or about human nature in general. In these ancient stories, the message or lesson is so primal and "gusty", so timelessly relevant, that it usually strikes a familiar chord even in modern readers and thus, remains in their memory. What is learnt goes beyond simple facts and falls into the realm of wisdom: knowledge and judgement based on experience. The wisdom in a particular tale can usually be stated as the theme of the tale.
